Casimir effect for a D-dimensional sphere
نویسنده
چکیده
The Casimir force on a D-dimensional sphere due to the confinement of a massless scalar field is computed as a function of D, where D is a continuous variable that ranges from −∞ to ∞. The dependence of the force on the dimension is obtained using a simple and straightforward Green’s function technique. We find that the Casimir force vanishes as D → +∞ (D non-even integer) and also vanishes when D is a negative even integer. The force has simple poles at positive even integer values of D. 11.10.Kk, 12.39.Ba, 11.10.Jj Typeset using REVTEX ∗E-mail: [email protected] †E-mail: [email protected] 1

SOME POINTS ON CASIMIR FORCES
Casimir forces of massive ferrnionic Dirac fields are calculated for parallel plates geometry in spatial space with dimension d and imposing bag model boundary conditions. It is shown that in the range of ma>>l where m is mass of fields quanta and a is the separation distance of the plates, it is equal to massive bosonic fields Casimir force for each degree of freedom. We argue this equalit...
متن کاملVector Casimir effect for a D-dimensional sphere
The Casimir energy or stress due to modes in a D-dimensional volume subject to TM (mixed) boundary conditions on a bounding spherical surface is calculated. Both interior and exterior modes are included. Together with earlier results found for scalar modes (TE modes), this gives the Casimir effect for fluctuating “electromagnetic” (vector) fields inside and outside a spherical shell. Known resu...
متن کاملCasimir effects of nano objects in fluctuating scalar and electromagnetic fields: Thermodynamic investigating
Casimir entropy is an important aspect of casimir effect and at the nanoscale is visible. In this paper, we employ the path integral method to obtain a general relation for casimir entropy and internal energy of arbitrary shaped objects in the presence of two, three and four dimension scalar fields and the electromagnetic field. For this purpose, using Lagrangian and based on a perturb...
متن کاملMeasurement of the Casimir force with a ferrule-top sensor
We present a Casimir force setup based on an all-optical ferrule-top sensor. We demonstrate that the instrument can be used to measure the gradient of the Casimir force between a gold-coated sphere and a gold-coated plate with results that are comparable to those achieved by similar atomic force microscope experiments. Thanks to the monolithic design of the force sensor (which does not require ...

Using a path integral approach we rederive a recently found representation of the Casimir energy for a sphere and a cylinder in front of a plane and derive the first correction to the proximity force theorem.
